The Old Hospital Lodge is nestled in the rolling hills and valleys of Northeast Iowa in Highlandville. Located just 15 miles northeast of Decorah, our lodge is the perfect retreat for hunters, fishermen, nature enthusiasts, bikers, hikers, church groups, and groups from nearby Luther College. Each unit has a large bedroom with two queen-size beds, a full bath, and a kitchen.
For hunters and fishermen, the lodge is just yards from South Bear Creek and not far from North Bear and others. The Iowa DNR stocks these streams weekly from April through October. These streams do not freeze in the winter and many fishermen say, "It's the best trout fishing in Iowa". Hunters can walk or drive from the lodge to wooded state land to hunt deer, turkey, or small game. Fishing and hunting licenses and regulation pamphlets can be obtained across the road at the Highland General Store. The state of Iowa has it all!
Stream Information ...
Some people were afraid that the fishing would be ruined for a year after the summer flood of 2008. This is not the case. The streams haven't been in this good of shape for a long time. Come and enjoy some of the best trout fishing ever!

Policies and Pricing ...
- Make reservations in advance by telephone or email. We NO LONGER ACCEPT credit cards. We accept cash or personal checks. .
- Single person: $55.00 per night (beginning June 1, 2010).
- Additional occupants: $70 per night for 2, $80 per night for 3, and $90 per night for 4.
- Check in after 3:00 pm unless other arrangements have been made.
- Check out before 12:00 noon.
- No smoking.
- No pets.
directions from Decorah ...
- From College Drive in Decorah, turn right at the four-way stop onto Locust Road. Climb the hill out of town and go for 8 miles to another four-way stop at Locust.
- Turn right at the four-way stop and go another 3 miles on A26 (Big Canoe Road) till the road branches at a large church.
- Take the left-hand path off of A26 onto Highlandville Road down the hill.
- Drive down the hill for two miles - you are now in Highlandville.
